Amnesty International has accused Russia of trafficking foreign nationals to the front line in Ukraine, politico.eu reported on Thursday. The rights group says Moscow's recruitment of foreigners to serve in its armed forces amounts to human trafficking, according to the outlet.
The finding was also carried by The Eastleigh Voice, which reported that Amnesty links the recruitment drive to trafficking. Politico.eu published its report on the allegation on 10 September 2026.
Coverage of the issue has focused on how recruits are drawn in. The Times reported on a prisoner-of-war camp holding Africans who, it said, were deceived into fighting for Russia. Africa Defense Forum separately reported the case of a student who was left fighting for his life in the Russian army after being misled.
